Our Beginning
What started as a casual conversation between two veterans about the challenges faced by veterans and as entrepreneurs in the workforce soon became the idea for a state-wide 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated solely to veterans in business.
The North Carolina Veterans Business Association, Inc (d.b.a. NC VetBiz) was founded in April 2008, and incorporated the following month by Joe Marchesani, Chairman of the Board, John Wharton, Board Member, and John Kennedy, Board Member. Review the timeline below for more information on the Association's progress. This organization is headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and is positioned to become the premier private sector advocate and voice for veteran business owners and professionals. However, unlike other such state associations, NC VetBiz is concerned with the interests of all veterans, as well as individuals serving in North Carolina on active duty for any branch of the armed forces, to include the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Guard and the Reserves.
We are a core group of dedicated professionals and business owners determined to build a strong association that will preserve the interests of all North Carolina veterans groups described above.
Our Mission
NC VetBiz is dedicated to becoming the premier state membership organization, committed “To empower, educate, and support all Veterans in commerce in North Carolina with resources to become successful in business.”
Our Vision
To guide, share, mentor and assist in building a successful professional veterans network for active duty, reserve and prior service veteran professionals and business owners. In order to carry out the vision, the Association shall:
- Create business opportunities, including but not limited to government agencies, private companies and other association members;
- Connect members with relevant and timely information;
- Expand our veteran and supporting veteran agencies network, while simultaneously leveraging existing resources;
- Pool resources to solve problems;
- Provide ongoing educational opportunities;
- Promote the common interest, welfare and advancement of all veterans and veteran owned businesses; and
- Engage in any other activity permitted under the tax-exempt status under Internal Revenues Code section 501(c), or under any successor provisions to these statutes.
Board of Directors
Our founding Veteran Board of Directors Joe Marchesani, Chairman of the Board, John Wharton, Board Member, and John Kennedy, Board Member, founded NC VetBiz in April 2008. Then, the founding Board of Directors selected the additional Veteran Board Members on the basis of their personal achievements and for the knowledge and expertise they can provide our organization and our partners.
